Steps to properly use a light microscope:
step 1Plug the microscope in. Preferably on the table to avoid the possibility of someone tripping over the cord.
step 2Rotate the scanning power objective (4x) into place. You will hear a click when it is in it's proper position.
step 3Turn on the substage lamp, and make sure the lenses are dry and free of fingerprints and debris. (Remember to only clean the lenses with lens paper!)
step 4Place you slide onto the stage, and use the stage clips to keep it in place.

step 5Use the coarse adjustment knob to focus the specimen.
step 6If necessary, use the fine adjustment knob to slightly adjust the focus and eliminate the "fuzzyness" of the image.
You can also change the amount of light by using the iris diaphragm. step 7Now you may rotate the objective lens into a higher magnification.
step 8To find out how greatly magnified your view is, multiply the number inscribed on the eyepiece by the number on the objective being used.
